The Plunet team is expanding further. New employees in all divisions

In response to strong business growth in Europe and North America and the addition of many new customers, Plunet’s revenues from the sales and maintenance of its “Plunet BusinessManager” business and translation management system have once again increased substantially over the previous year’s level.

This is also good news for Plunet’s established customers. That’s because Plunet is pumping income from sales growth back into its own organization to optimize its products and performance even more. Plunet’s continued expansion guarantees that it can continue to provide sustained high quality throughout its organization—from consulting, implementation, support and product management to software development.

The new members of the Plunet team:

Nancy Radloff is our new Business Development Manager in Berlin effective immediately. Nancy studied business administration and English at the University of Potsdam. She was previously employed as a business development assistant for the internationally renowned consulting firm of KPMG and has strong experience in business and marketing consulting.

Doris Langenberg joins Plunet’s Product Management team in Berlin as an interface specialist for CAT tools. Doris has a masters degree in software localization and years of experience as a translator and project manager in the translation industry. She will be responsible for the continued planning, development and implementation of Plunet’s numerous interfaces with CAT tools like SDL Studio, memoQ, Déjà Vu and ErrorSpy.

Andreas Gross is joining our team of developers in Würzburg. Andreas studied information technology and is a specialist in Web applications. In recent years he was involved in numerous development projects. Effective immediately he will be supporting the ongoing development of Plunet BusinessManager.

Plunet Integrates with SDL Trados Studio 2011

Seamless business and language management for professional language service providers and corporate language departments.

The next technological milestone has been set in the alliance between SDL Language Technologies and Plunet GmbH, originally established in 2009. Following intensive development work and a close joint coordination process, Plunet offers broad integration between Plunet BusinessManager and SDL Trados Studio (2009 and 2011 versions).

SDL Trados Studio 2011 is the market-leading translation software. It offers a high-performance and flexible solution for all translation tasks, including project creation, editing and review. Plunet BusinessManager is the world’s leading business and translation management system. It is used by translation companies to plan, manage and control business processes.

With the new integration, the two industry solutions can work together efficiently with a high level of automation. Translation agencies and corporate language departments can now link together most of their production and business processes and control them from Plunet BusinessManager. Project managers can now benefit from comprehensive business and translation management workflows, which streamline many manual processes and eliminate the need to constantly jump back and forth between the two systems. Translation slam

Dear friends and colleagues,

On Monday 12 March at 2 pm I’ll be taking part in a translation slam with Frank Wynne as part of the Norwich Writers Centre Showcase event and it’s being streamed live:

http://www.writerscentrenorwich.org.uk/livestreamingeventnorwichshowcasetr anslationslam.aspx

A slam is when 2 translators are asked to translate the same text (in advance).

Each one does the translation and then sends it to the moderator. Neither sees the work of the other. On the day, the translators read out their respective translations, which are inevitably totally different (and it's really incredible how much so). The audience is of course baffled, especially if they've never thought about translation before. Moderator asks pertinent questions and translators explain their choices. It's a brilliant way of showcasing the art of translation and getting audiences to understand about voice etc. but incredibly scary to be the translator whose work gets dissected!

All the best

Ros

Groundbreaking innovations in Translation Memory management with Kilgray’s memoQ 4.5

Kilgray Translation Technologies, translation productivity tool developer, has announced the availability of memoQ 4.5.

Kilgray’s memoQ 4.5 brings unprecedented productivity to freelance translators and language service providers who want clean translation memories or who are newcomers to translation technology. Introducing the concepts of LiveAlign™, ActiveTm™, Library™ and ezAttach™, memoQ 4.5 revolutionizes  management of Translation Memory and reference documents, and ensures quicker turnaround times, while maintaining both tool performance and quality of translation. The TM indexing engine has been completely rewritten to meet clients' requirements: the new translation memory supports simultaneous read/write access, target language concordancing, two-way translation memories, and is optimized for translation memories or reference documents of up to 2 million units. This is available in both client and server editions.

After re-thinking the concept of online team translation projects, even those who don't have constant internet access to online resources can still work effectively on collaborative translation projects. Using a brand new alignment algorithm, memoQ 4.5 will search many additional elements during alignment, including formatting and terminology.

MyMemory joins the successful Eurotermbank integration as the second data provider to be integrated into memoQ. When enabled, this module gives results from translated.net's MyMemory, containing over 416 million segments.

memoQ server technology strengthens Milengo’s global reach

Milengo, a global language service provider (LSP), and Hungarian partner espell have joined forces with translation technology specialist Kilgray to trial memoQ with one of Milengo’s largest clients.

memoQ is an advanced translation workflow environment that is quickly gaining popularity among LSPs and corporate translation departments seeking increases in efficiency and profitability through advanced translation technology.

Working with files in their original format or prepared in other translation tools, memoQ delivers important productivity gains for translators and project managers alike. By centralizing the management of all linguistic assets, memoQ improves output quality and delivers long-term savings through the re use of previous translations. memoQ is available as either a stand-alone version or in an online server environment.

‘Selecting the right tools for the job is key to our flexible approach to localization projects’ said Renato Beninatto, CEO and Chief Instigator at Milengo ‘Remaining technology independent gives Milengo the ability to manage a wide range of localization projects and allows us react quickly to the needs of our clients’. The Milengo memoQ trial began recently and is already proving extremely effective, delivering gains in productivity and output quality. ‘Streamlining our workflow with tools like memoQ gives Milengo a clear competitive advantage’ said Renato ‘It also provides clients with an overview of our workflow process allowing us to work collaboratively with them in a way that’s going to revolutionize our industry’

Miklos Ban, CEO of espell, Milengo’s Language Technology Centre, has been working closely with Kilgray and memoQ since 2008. ‘memoQ is a fantastic tool and we’ve been using it on our own projects for a while now,’ said Miklos. ‘In today’s fast paced marketplace, it is especially important that we offer our customers responsive, adaptable workflows and tap into the power of collaborative translation to process high volumes of work quickly. This is why we recommended memoQ to our global partners at Milengo.’

Gabor Farago, espell’s Translation Technology Architect is responsible for testing and managing migration from SDL Trados. ‘memoQ provides us with affordable, state-of-the-art server technology and flexible terminology management, which we’ve needed for some time’ said Gabor. ‘Moving existing Trados translation memories to memoQ turned out to be much smoother than expected, and now memoQ’s powerful alignment, terminology, QA and client review features enable our customers to single-source a wider range of integrated services from us.’
espell and Milengo have also been impressed by the continued support provided by their technology partners at Kilgray. Miklos added, ‘If we have a need for support, Kilgray is always quick to respond. It’s clear to us that, like Milengo and espell, Kilgray is a very customer-focused organization, something we value highly. We’re very pleased with the way memoQ is performing and we’re looking forward to the enhanced functionality Kilgray is planning to add in the future.’

Hever Translators’ Pool deploys Kilgray’s memoQ server technology

Hever Translators’ Pool to invest in Kilgray’s memoQ server technology.
Hever Translators’ Pool the leading translation service provider in Israel, purchased Kilgray’s memoQ server technology due to its remarkable cost-effectiveness, the attentiveness of the developers to the end-users, and Kilgray's outstanding technical support. Using the memoQ server, they have gained centralized control over TMs and term bases, and increased the number of translators who use CAT tools on a regular basis.

Summarizing all the benefits, together with the online document storage, the memoQ server has allowed them to handle large-volume projects without too much technical hassle and improve the quality of services significantly.

About Hever Translators' Pool
Over 50 years ago Hever Translators’ Pool was among the first translation service companies established in Israel. Working with highly skilled employees, and providing a variety of professional, top quality services, the company is a market leader among language service providers.

Translation means much more at Hever Translators’ Pool than converting texts from one language into another. Professional translation requires a full understanding of complex texts, the ability to use the correct terminology, and familiarity with linguistic nuances. In addition, it requires the ability to make changes depending on the specific target language and its culture, while still conveying the spirit and the depths of meaning of the original. These are the principles that have guided Hever Translators’ Pool throughout the last 50 years.

Hever Translators’ Pool is ISO-9002 certified, and is a member of the American Translators Association.
